The Edinburgh Larder began it’s journey in 2009 with the aim of promoting seasonal food and local produce in Scotland. This is still our main focus after more than 10 years of running our Cafe. We’ve been asked by many customers over the years for our seasonal recipes so each month, we’ll be providing a number of links to recipes we like using seasonal ingredients and some of our own too.
There are so many reasons for eating in season and buying local food – food tastes better and costs less when it’s in season, you can help save the planet with reduced food miles, there are huge health benefits form growing your own and cooking in season, and buying local produce supports the economy in a huge way – in fact research shows that £10 spent with a local independent shop means up to an additional £50 goes back into the local economy.
Our first selection of recipes focuses on the delicious courgette. Gardens and allotments will be full of these at the moment and they’re in shops everywhere too. If you don’t have your own garden or you’re unsure how to grow veg, there are a huge number of community gardens in Edinburgh where you can help to grow and take home some delicious fruit and veg to cook with.
