Mushroom Foraging Course – Blackford Hill – Edinburgh – Saturday 15 October

October 10th, 2011

We’ve added a second date for mushroom foraging to our events calendar this year.  Our first course in September was so popular that we’ve organised another course through Plants with Purpose.  The course begins at 10.30am and lasts for 3 hours.  It will combine identification with a forage walk so you can build a good basis of knowledge in how to forage mushrooms.   The location of the course is Blackford Hill – at the main gate leading up from Charterhall Road (please see map attached below).  Bus services 24 and 41 run from the city centre and there is also parking available at the gate where we will meet on Charterhall Road.  Please book via the ‘Shop & Events’ tab on our website.  If you have any queries, please feel free to e-mail info@edinburghlarder.co.uk or call our cafe on 0131 5566922.

Lovely review on Yelp – thanks Andy R!

September 23rd, 2011

Simply put, this place is great.

Local ingredients of the highest quality.

Amazing local treats…  salmon/ smoked fish, cheeses, sausages/ charcuterie, chutneys..
A+ breads.. OAT CAKES.. (organic) local salads.. Quiche.. pies.. fresh as can be..

Beautiful tea’s.. as well as cakes and sweets..

Cosy, cool setting without having to be “hip”..  and great people..

I could eat here everyday.

You should eat here at least once.

One of my favorite lunches in the world.. and perfect packing for a summer picnic.

It’s a true gem.

We’re recommended for breakfast by the Guardian!

September 20th, 2011

We’re really happy to have been chosen as one of the top 10 places to have breakfast during the festival by the Guardian.  While we agree that we have plenty of delicious fodder for a hangover, we’re also a great place to start your morning on any day of the week – as testified by the List Eating & Drinking Guide this year where we’re recommended for breakfast.  The summary and link below give more info on the Guardian review – thanks from the Edinburgh Larder Team!

Despite its situation just off the tourist-magnet Royal Mile, The Larder remains a peaceful hideaway, with six wooden tables and a few deli shelves full of locally sourced and organic produce. There’s a wide selection of teas, a kids’ menu, gluten-free and vegan options, and the Sunday brunch is legendary – try the veggie haggis on toast for satisfying hangover stodge. The finishing touch? It’s licensed, so if a hair of the dog’s your thing, try some locally brewed ale, including one from Stewart Brewing and one from Falkirk’s Tryst.

New Menu

June 3rd, 2011

New Menu – May 2011

We’ve had our new menu in operation for about a month now and it seems to be going really well.  We also have a range of delicious seasonal specials every day with two soups – one meat and one vegan – as well as our fantastic selection of homemade cakes.  We offer lots of gluten free options and a takeaway menu too – just ask one of our staff for details.
