Fantastic article on why we support local Scottish producers

October 30th, 2010

We’re really proud to have been featured in an article about why we think it’s important to support local producers.  The article – in the most recent issue of Scottish Licensed Trade News – sums up in a nutshel the reasons behind opening the Edinburgh Larder.  The amazing producers in Scotland are absolutely at the core of what we do and we couldn’t be happier to support them and tailor our menu towards the incredible products they work so hard to create.  We’re so happy that more and more people are finding out about the wonderful food we have on offer in Scotland.  Please feel free to read the article - Scottish Licensed Trade News Feature – October 2010 Issue – and let us know your thoughts via our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=133076277206 or email us at info@edinburghlarder.co.uk.

No more weekend evening openings for now…….

October 30th, 2010

We’ve decided after careful consideration that we’re going to stop opening the deli on Friday and Saturday evenings.  We found that the bookings weren’t very consistent and we were spending money on paying staff to be there when it was often quiet.  So, for the moment there will be no more weekend evening openings – we might look to continue them next year if there’s enough demand.  In the mean time, we’re looking at hosting a monthly supper club which will be run on a ticketed basis and will feature a different theme each month of foods from around the world made using lovely Scottish ingredients.  Watch this space for further details!

Edinburgh Larder meets HRH!

September 29th, 2010

We’ve received a couple of official photos of our cookery demonstration with Slow Food for HRH’s visit to Edinburgh. The demo in St Andrews Square on the 6th of September was in support of project START, an initiative established by The Prince of Wales to promote and celebrate sustainable living. We cooked our popular lamb burgers with minced lamb from Peelham Farm, pork from Hugh Grierson in a cream and white wine sauce with skirlie stuffing using oatmeal from Stoats and pan fried venison heart from Fletchers of Auchtermuchty with lemon thyme, garlic and olive oil. Even to a converted vegetarian of 15 years, this was a bit of a revelation – often compared in texture and flavour to fillet steak it’s cheap, tasty and much better for you. We managed to present a bag to HRH full of lovely goodies from the Edinburgh Larder which he seemed really happy to receive so we hope he’s enjoying the amazing produce from the talented producers in Scotland!
