I was born in Holland in the 60’s and have always had a strong love for both science and art. After secondary school I went to study science in Amsterdam. I developed an interest in form and philosophy rather than genetics and other molecular pursuits, so I took a wide range of subjects ranging from botany to embryology and neuroscience. After graduating I moved to Edinburgh to work in the Medical School as a scientist making detailed anatomical models of mouse embryos. I also took a PhD in Anatomy and Embryology. It was here that I became really engrossed with, and love, natural form and ‘wholeness’ and this was crowned with coming across Goethe’s and Haeckl’s work.
During this time I had my two children and it became clear to me I wanted to move from Science to art, keeping strong hold of my love for everything that grows in nature. I started taking several part time courses at ECA and Leith School of Art and ultimately did the intensive full time painting course at Leith in 2008/2009.
